Roy and Gene Clair began serving the audio touring industry in 1966 with a gig at F&M College in Lancaster Pennsylvania with Frankie Vallie and the Four Seasons. Taking knowledge learned along the way they have supplied audio equipment and expertise to Elvis Presley, Queen, Elton John, Peter Frampton, U2 as well as some of the largest festivals in the world like, Live Aid and Live 8, The US Festival, Rock & Rio and Woodstock in 1999. From very modest beginnings in Lititz Pennsylvania Clair Brothers has grown into a machine built to service this industry anywhere in the world 365 days a year and offer products, design and installation of audio, video and lighting systems.

Roy and Gene did not have a book to go by but they surrounded themselves with the best the industry had to offer and most of that came from the immediate area. Most early employees were athletic and well educated in order to handle the rigors of the road. The demands on touring personnel are high with little sleep and a lot of physical exertion.
As the demands of the entertainers, their management and the production crews grew so did the systems that Clair Brothers offered. Roy will tell you that new systems designs came from the demands of the industry and the desire to provide a better show for the crowds that were also growing. Think of the first big Beatles show in this country and then realize that the system that they used was probably no more powerful than a system you might now hear at a bingo in your neighborhood fire hall. Today systems consist of hundreds of speakers enclosed in purpose built boxes that are designed to pack small, load in and out easy and weigh as little as possible. Yet today, every seat in a stadium is getting great sound because these designs allow the engineers to direct the sound where they want it. Roy will say, “get in, get it up and get out”. Think about it, the most important things for everyone involved are very simple. Get in – get to the venue on time and get the system on the floor. Get it up – Get the system flown and ready for sound check. Get out – Get it struck and loaded out and on the road to the next get. Pretty simple sounding and short and to the point but so much involved to actually get it all completed and that is where Clair Brothers has excelled for years.
