Gramercy Park Hotel
Client's Goal:
- Provide high-quality background and foreground sound system for a boutique 5-star hotel’s public spaces including lobby, elevators and restrooms.
- Provide multi-zone foreground sound system for a restaurant, capable of providing party atmosphere at times.
- Provide larger scale sound system for two main bar/lounge areas with high SPL output capability.
- Provide sound and video system for a meeting and conference room.
- Provide flexible sound system for rooftop-level event and dining space consisting of terrace dining and two independent indoor areas.
- Provide sound and video system for a penthouse suite.
Project Details:
The project revolved around very specific Interior Design. There were a number of challenges—some budgets were cut mid design, others were expanded mid installation, and there were a number of system layout revisions. We responded quickly with equipment substitutions and coordination, and we spent a lot of time consulting with the design team and working with acousticians from NYC and Texas.
When sound spillage from the terrace to neighboring buildings had to be addressed, we worked with PMK Acoustics consultants from Texas to design and deploy a noise cancelling system on the Roof terrace. Through placement of subwoofers and processing of their signals we were able to achieve about 9dB reduction in bass reaching the neighbors across the street with minimal effect on the sound level on the terrace. This cut down on complaints and allowed for better parties on the rooftop terrace.
